We have completed once again a successful season in Los Plateados, in the unique Santa Cruz river. Here’s how Season Nr9 was:
During the seven weeks of the season we witnessed a very stable river both in color and level, slowly dropping but without major fluctuations, and same with the average water temperatures.
These conditions made it possible for the Steelhead migration to be constant, with clear pushes of fresh fish at intervals from 3 to 4 days.
Maybe the difference with other years was on this occasion the great number of smaller fish that entered the system, which logically decreased the average size -although providing a lot of fun-
We are able to have in parallel a good number of captures that were around 12 to 14 lbs that reminded us how great this fishery can be.
Other particularity is the growth of the population of sea-run browns which have been a constant by-catch (and a really spectacular one we may say!), something that has been happening for the last years, progressively.
Particularities of a single lodge in this immense river:
The statistics and catch rates clearly vary and even lose objectivity when it comes to only 4 fishermen swinging flies in a 385 km long river with such huge flow. Even so, we are very satisfied with what we have achieved in our 9th season in Los Plateados, next to what we still consider the most productive section of the Santa Cruz river without a doubt.
The team:
Most important still is to thank the members of our team, on whom we rely and who we count on throughout the season: Nicolás, Lucas and Tomás. Everyone did a phenomenal job as a team, collaborating on every aspect and giving it all.
Our thanks to those who always accompany us along this path and make our service and standards every time better: Fly Water Travel, Sage, Yeti, Patagonia, Decked.
Finally we are proud to confirm that the 2024 season is practically full. There are still some spots available in the prime-weeks, so if you are interested in visiting us, do not hesitate to contact us and book your place.
Cheers,
Juan Manuel, Pollo and Claudio
